Darjeeling Himalayan Railway
Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) is a UNESCO World Heritage Area. It attracts thousands of local and foreign tourists. The tourists travel thousands of miles to watch tiny four wheel ‘B’ class steam locomotives which are more than 100 years old. They also experience a journey along a route of engineering marvel. The ‘Z’ reverses where the train goes back and then again goes forward are unique in the world. The loops at Batasia and Agony Point are special sites where the train gains altitude within a short distance. The Batasia loop, a double loop altogether, is a major tourist attraction in Darjeeling. Besides engineering marvels of DHR, the tourists in DHR trains can also enjoy the beauty of Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary and the exotic view of lush green tea-estates.
